Retail chains, modern trade, pharmacies, exporters and marketplaces such as Amazon, Flipkart and BigBasket accept products only with genuine GS1 barcodes. GS1 India is the sole body that allocates the “890” company prefix for India; barcodes bought from anyone else are not registered to your company and are rejected at listing or at the retailer’s scanning system.
We prepare and file your GS1 India company registration, help you choose the right number of barcodes (GTINs), guide you on allocating numbers to products and variants, and then design and print your barcode labels in-house — verified with a barcode verifier so they scan first time.
GS1 India membership carries an annual subscription that keeps your barcodes active; the subscription depends on your turnover slab and the number of barcodes allocated. We remind you before the renewal date and handle the renewal filing at the same professional fee. If your product range grows you can move to a higher barcode capacity at any time.
Application submitted within 1–2 working days of receiving documents; GS1 India allocation typically follows within a few working days of fee realisation (subject to GS1 India processing).
Numbers sold by resellers are usually recycled prefixes registered to another company. Retailers and marketplaces check the prefix against the GS1 database, so such barcodes are rejected and cannot be transferred to you. Only GS1 India allocates a prefix in your company’s name.
One GTIN per product per pack size per variant (colour, flavour, weight…). A brand with 20 products in 3 sizes needs 60 GTINs — the 100-barcode plan is enough. Choose 1,000 or more if you plan frequent new launches.
GS1 India charges a one-time registration fee plus an annual subscription that depends on your annual turnover and the barcode capacity you choose. It is paid to GS1 India at actuals; our professional fee is separate. Use the calculator on this page and we confirm the exact GS1 amount for your turnover slab before filing.
